Maryland makes this relatively easy to do. If you're asked to officiate at a friend's or a family member's wedding in Maryland, all you have to do is get ordained first. Plenty of online religious organizations will ordain you for free ? you just have to pay for the official certificates.

ULC-ordained ministers are considered religious officials under Maryland law; however, the state does not impose any requirements upon the minister's religious beliefs or lack thereof. The minister is not required to register with the state.

There is a $25.00 non-refundable fee, payable by Visa, Mastercard or Discover only, at the time of the ceremony. Ceremonies must be scheduled in advance after application is made. Guest limit of twelve is strictly enforced. This number of guests includes the parties getting married and any children (regardless of age).

Both parties must be over 18 years of age. Forms of identification for each person: driver's license, birth certificate or a passport (Applicants 17 and younger are required to call the License Department prior to applying.) The fee is $25.00 - CASH only. Neither a blood test nor witnesses are required in Maryland.

Marriage ceremonies are performed by appointment only. If you wish to hold your ceremony at the courthouse, please contact the License Department at 240-777-9460 or in person. You must obtain your marriage license before you may schedule a ceremony. The fee for the ceremony is $25 cash or money order.

If you would like to get married in the courthouse, a judge, a Clerk of the Circuit Court or an appointed, designated Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court may perform a civil ceremony. The hours, location, and fees for a civil ceremony vary from county to county.
