The AOC-E-506 Form is used to officially close an estate after someone has died. The Executor must file this Form by the court's deadline. This Form marks the end of the estate administration and the distribution of assets to those who will inherit them.

Administering an uncontested probate and estate administration in North Carolina generally takes between six months to a year. The process and time involved can vary depending upon the nature and complexity of the Estate.

You should bring three copies of any documents you want to show the court: one copy for the judge, one copy for you, and one copy for the other party. If you only bring one copy, you should be aware that the court may need to keep that copy in the court file.

A Notice of Intent to File Name Change must be filed with the civil clerk at the local superior court to be posted on their bulletin board for a period of 10 days. Court fees include the filing fees to create the estate ($120) and the probate fee that is taxed against the personal property assets of the estate (0.4% of the value of the personal property assets in the estate, with a minimum fee of $15 and a maximum fee of $6,000).
