The purpose of a motion in limine is to determine whether certain evidence may be presented to the jury, in any form and at any stage. See Lapasinskas, supra, and 63 ALR 3d 311. Generally, a motion in limine is used to exclude evidence that a party believes to be irrelevant or unfairly prejudicial.

The court shall grant summary judgment if the moving party shows that there is no genuine dispute as to any material fact and the moving party is entitled to judgment as a matter of law. The court should state on the record the reasons for granting or denying the motion.

If the judge makes a decision without a hearing or if the judge or commissioner takes the matter under advisement, they will usually decide on the motion within 60 days after the motion was submitted.

When a judge orders you to meet certain conditions as part of your sentence or release, the judge enforces compliance with those conditions using orders to show cause. If your pretrial case manager or probation agent believes you violated your conditions, they can file an affidavit with the court.

Objections to admissibility of exhibits or use of deposition testimony (sometimes these objections are called motions in limine). Objections to admissibility are governed by the Utah Rules of Evidence. Generally, not objecting means the evidence can be admitted at trial.

A party may not make a motion in a memorandum opposing a motion or in a reply memorandum. A party who objects to evidence in another party's motion or memorandum may not move to strike that evidence. Instead, the party must include in the subsequent memorandum an objection to the evidence.
