Colorado state law upholds strict penalties for failure or refusal to pay child support as required by a family court order. The court may restrict the non-compliant parent's driver's license as well as their professional licenses.

Child support modifications are governed by C.R.S. 14-10-122. In most instances, a modification of child support can be assessed or made retroactive to the date a motion to modify is filed.

There is no limit to how often your financial circumstances can change; thus, you can adjust your child support order as often as necessary. Your request will only be accepted if your change in circumstances is substantial, resulting in the child support order decreasing or increasing by at least 10 percent.

When Can Child Support Be Modified? The standard to modify child support in Colorado is when there has been a "substantial and continuing" change in circumstances that results in at least a 10% difference in the amount of child support due.

The current order does not contain a provision regarding medical support (insurance and unreimbursed medical expenses).
