CGS 22-363 states that ?no person shall own or harbor a dog or dogs which is or are a nuisance by reason of vicious disposition or excessive barking or other disturbance or, by such barking or other disturbance, is or are a source of annoyance to any sick person residing in the immediate vicinity.?

In order to obtain a license you must submit a current rabies vaccination certificate issued by your veterinarian. If the dog has been altered, you will also need to submit a spayed/neutered certificate from your veterinarian. You should renew your dog license by mail no later than July 1, 2023.

(f) The owner of any dog, cat or other animal which has bitten or attacked a person and has been quarantined pursuant to subsection (c) of this section may authorize the humane euthanization of such dog, cat or other animal by a licensed veterinarian at any time before the end of the fourteenth day of such quarantine.

The fee for licensing a spayed or neutered dog is $8.00. Licenses not applied for within the required 30 days will be subject to a penalty of $1.00 per month. Please provide the documentation and fee as outlined above, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Domestic pets such as cats, ferrets, reptiles, and birds do not require a license in Connecticut. People who have a dog must obtain a license and tag for the dog, though. The Town Clerk's Office issues dog licenses upon receipt of proof of Rabies vaccination from a veterinarian.

All dogs must be licensed in the State of Connecticut when they are 6 months old and then annually thereafter. The license period is July 1st through June 30th. Dog licenses must be renewed each year by the June 30th expiration date.
