Connecticut has a pretty detailed process, but it is not all that difficult. There is a requirement to take a pistol safety course (which is what we offer with the NRA Basic Pistol Course). Whether you are in or out of state wanting a CT permit, you still need the course.

Guidelines to obtain a Connecticut gun permit: Be at least 21 years old. Be a legal resident of the United States. Reside or have a business around the local area you are applying. Complete an approved gun safety training course. Pass a National Instant Criminal Background Check. Pass a mental health records check.

Under federal law, people are generally prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms if they have been convicted of a felony or some domestic violence misdemeanors, or if they are subject to certain court orders related to domestic violence or a serious mental condition.

You can only buy a handgun in Connecticut if in addition to being a resident, you are at least 21 years of age and you possess a valid Permit to Car- ry Pistols or Revolvers, a valid Eligibility Certificate or if you are a sworn Police Officer. You must first complete an Application to Purchase Firearms (DPS -67-C).

(c) Except in self defense, no person shall carry, draw, exhibit or brandish a facsimile of a firearm or simulate a firearm in a threatening manner, with intent to frighten, vex or harass another person.

With minor exceptions discussed below, anyone carrying handguns in Connecticut must have a gun permit and carry it upon his or her person when carrying a handgun (CGS § 29-35). The gun permit is issued under a two part process.
