A Certificate of Service is a document confirming that an individual or company was served legal documents. It is an important document because it needs to be filed with the court in order to prove that the person or company was served and was given the opportunity to respond.

Filing a case requires four steps: Writing and filing the complaint. Paying the filing fee (or getting it waived) Notifying the party you are suing (this notification is usually called ?service of process?) Proving to the court that the party you are suing (the Defendant) has been served.

(d) Striking Appearance. If the defendant is represented by other counsel or if other counsel enters an appearance on behalf of the defendant, and if no objection is made within ten days after the motion is filed, the clerk shall strike the appearance of moving counsel.
