Hunters can pursue both mule deer and white-tailed deer in Idaho. Mule deer are largely in central and southern Idaho, while white-tailed deer populate central and northern Idaho. A regular deer license allows hunters to pursue both, but Idaho also has white-tailed ONLY hunts.

To apply for a controlled hunt, residents and nonresidents must have a valid Idaho hunting license and can use the application worksheet below or apply online. These worksheets are also found in the respective rules booklets. Print out the worksheet to speed up the application process.

Submissions of hunter reports should only be sent through Idaho Fish and Game's app, online, or by dialing 1-877-268-9365 to speak to a live operator.

You will need to verify / look up your account on the MyODFW.com licensing page. (Click on the Buy a License button.) to report your hunts. Once you have completed steps to verify your account, choose ?Submit a Hunting and Fishing Outcome Report? or ?Outcome Reporting / Mandatory Reporting? to complete your report.

The application period for elk, deer, and antelope controlled hunts is in May with a deadline of the first week of June, and results posted in late June. Big game proposals for 2023 have been published and can be reviewed here. Hunters may apply for tags with Idaho Fish and Game here.

To enhance and sustain the value of Idaho's wildlife, up to three (3) tags per species per year may be issued for deer, elk and pronghorn antelope, one (1) tag per year may be issued for moose, and one (1) tag per species per year may be issued for mountain goat and bighorn sheep.
