Word Open Word with a document loaded - can be a blank, new document. Click on File > Options > Advanced and scroll to the General section - almost to the bottom. Click on File Locations - if this is greyed out you likely don't have a document open in Word. Select Workgroup templates and click Modify.

Office templates, commonly in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\ Office Personal templates, typically in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Custom Office Templates, or OneDrive\Documents\Custom Office Templates.

Click Open. Click Browse. Navigate to Documents / Custom Office Templates. This is the default location for any custom templates you've created or added.

Change the default layout Open the template or a document based on the template whose default settings you want to change. On the Format menu, click Document, and then click the Layout tab. Make any changes that you want, and then click Default.

Make a template or add-in available whenever you start Word , and then select Word Options > Advanced. Scroll down to General, and then click File Locations. Note the location listed for Startup. Save to this location the template or add-in that you want available when you start Word.

On the left pane, select Advanced. Under General, select File Locations. Select User templates, and then select Modify. In the Modify Location dialog box, change the setting in the Folder name list or the Look in list to the folder in which you want to save your new templates.
