Mediation is a process in which a neutral facilitates settlement discussions between parties. The neutral has no authority to make a decision or impose a settlement upon the parties. The neutral attempts to focus the attention of the parties upon their needs and interests rather than upon rights and positions.

MEDIATION FEES: Mediations are charged at $175.00 per hour, per separately represented party. In the event there is more than one separately represented plaintiff or separately represented defendant (multi-party cases), the hourly rate will be reduced to $150.00 per hour, per party.

Registered mediators are not required to be lawyers. However, because Ms. Miller is an experienced family law lawyer, she can help parties effectively identify all the issues that need to be discussed and can guide them in finding a resolution that meets their needs now and in the future.

Mediation is a required precursor to a Georgia divorce; however, people who do not wish to cooperate with the creation of a divorce settlement or who are especially emotional throughout the divorce process, may be unable to settle through mediation.

Mediation is non-binding, meaning any verbal agreements reached during mediation will not become binding until the parties sign a written agreement memorializing such agreements. To encourage open and honest conversations, Georgia makes mediation confidential.

If the ADR Office assigns the mediator, the fee is $100 per hour with a 2-hour ($200) minimum. The parties are to share the cost equally and must be prepared to pay the mediator at the time of the session. If parties privately select a mediator, the mediator sets the fee and cancellation policy.
