Many veterans qualify for an additional exemption of $3,000 on their New Jersey Income Tax for income earned in 2017 and beyond. This exemption does not apply to income earned in 2016 or earlier. If you are a military veteran, you are eligible for this exemption if you were honorably discharged.

New Jersey Veteran Income Tax Exemption: Veterans are eligible for a $6,000 exemption on their New Jersey Income Tax return if they are a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces who was honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active duty any time before the last day of the tax year.
