Regardless of the number of repair attempts, vehicles may also qualify as lemons if they've been out of service for repairs for a cumulative total of 30 business days or more. If the defect is still present after 4 attempts or 30 days, the vehicle is a lemon.

If your vehicle is under warranty, lemon laws require your vehicle manufacturer to repair your vehicle and, if they cannot do so after a reasonable number of attempts, they must either replace or refund your vehicle.

If the dealership can't repair the vehicle within a reasonable number of attempts - defined under the law as four attempts or thirty days out of service - the vehicle is a lemon and the purchaser is entitled to his or her choice of a refund or replacement.
