There are three ways that information contained in a court record can be removed from public inspection: certain information in a record can be shielded, the record can be sealed, or the record can be expunged. Use this form to certify to the court that documents were mailed or hand delivered to a party in a case.

Some instances, an entire case, a. document, or information in a document is considered restricted information by law and cannot be viewed by the public. You must use the restricted information form to tell the court that there is a court document or information in a court document that is restricted by law.

Under Rule 1-322.1, the following personal identifier information shall not be included in any such electronic or paper filing with a court: (1) an individual's Social Security number or taxpayer identification number; or (2) the numeric or alphabetic characters of a financial or medical account identifier.

(c) Additional Time After Service by Mail. Whenever a party has the right or is required to do some act or take some proceeding within a prescribed period after service upon the party of a notice or other paper and service is made by mail, three days shall be added to the prescribed period.

The person filing documents with the court is responsible for letting the court know if the documents, or their contents, are restricted. Complete the Restricted Information Form to let the court know that you are submitting something that Maryland law requires the court keep private.
