Personal Information When it comes to redacting data, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is a must. This includes anything that can directly or indirectly identify an individual, such as name, Social Security Number, address, date of birth, and email address.

When you redact PII, you are removing part of the information from your document so that it cannot be used to steal your identity or the identity of others. As the document filer, you are solely responsible for ensuring that PII is redacted. The Clerk's Office may NOT redact PII for you.

Before a document is filed it must be redacted in ance with Federal Rule of Bankruptcy Procedure 9037(link is external) to protect information known as ?personal data identifiers? such as, social security and tax identification numbers, birthdates, names of non-debtor minors and financial-account numbers.

Social Security Numbers, Taxpayer identification numbers, names of minors, dates of birth, financial account numbers, home addresses, passport numbers, and driver license numbers. Please refer to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 5.2 and Local Rule 5.2-1.

The general starting point is that you should redact part of the record or withhold specific documents that relate to third parties - such as another individual who can be identified - unless you're able to get consent from the third party.
