An ESA letter ensures the individual is protected under the Fair Housing Act and other laws that provide emotional support animals special access. The letter can be written by your doctor, therapist, or other licensed health care professionals that are familiar with your disability. The letter does NOT need to list what your disability is, only that you HAVE a disability and a service animal or an emotional support animal is needed because of your disability.

All emotional support animals, including an emotional support animal in West Virginia, will be protected by the Air Carrier Access Act. However, to qualify for protection under this law, you'll need to: Provide an emotional support animal letter that's on the letterhead of a licensed mental health professional.
