A debt verification letter doesn't have to say anything fancy. Just state that you're responding to a collection effort, you don't recognize the debt, you are demanding they prove you owe it and, if they can't, to stop contacting you. That's it.

Your answer can be a handwritten letter to the court that says you do not agree with the lawsuit. The law on strict products liability in New York is that a manufacturer, wholesaler, distributor, or retailer who sells a product in a defective condition is liable for injury which results from the use of the product.
