Complete the copy request form (see the Copy Request Forms tab) for the county where the case is located. If no county form is available, you can use the statewide copy request form or you can write a letter to the court. Mail the completed document to court administration in the county where your case is located.

Federal case files are maintained electronically and are available through the internet-based Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) service. PACER allows anyone with an account to search and locate appellate, district, and bankruptcy court case and docket information. Register for a PACER account.

The Court reviews appeals in a timely manner. By law, the Court must issue a decision within 90 days of oral arguments. If no oral argument is held, a decision is due within 90 days of the case's scheduled conference date. This deadline is the shortest imposed on any appellate court in the nation.

To obtain a certified copy, contact court administration of the county where the document was originally filed.

In person. Visit the court administration counter at the courthouse in the county where the case is located. Most requests can be completed on the same day. However, due to space limitations and other storage consideration, many counties keep some court records off-site.

You must file the original, signed notice of appeal and statement of the case (not copies) with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts. You must file all documents relating to your appeal with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts. You cannot file papers by sending them directly to the judges of the court.
