Per NH law, one wait week per benefit year must be served by individuals collecting NH Unemployment Compensation, including WorkShare participants, unless they have already served their wait week in their current benefit year. Individuals participating in a WorkShare plan are not required to look for new work.

The maximum weekly benefit amount is currently $427; the minimum amount is currently $32. You may receive benefits for a maximum of 26 weeks. (In times of very high unemployment, additional weeks of benefits may be available.)

If you quit your job, you will be disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits unless you had good cause. In general, good cause means that your reason for leaving the position was job-related and was so compelling that you had no other choice than to leave.

The Return to Work initiative is a voluntary program to provide a structured, supervised training opportunity to NH unemployed claimants while continuing to collect unemployment compensation. The training program may be up to six weeks, and a maximum of 24 hours per week.

The additional $300/week payments are paid to all people filing for benefits in either state or federal programs as long as they are eligible for a benefit payment. THESE ADDITIONAL $300/WEEK FEDERAL PAYMENTS WILL CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR A TOTAL OF 11 WEEKS AND ARE CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO END MARCH 13, 2021.

Each time you become unemployed or have your hours of work significantly reduced, you must file a new claim or reopen an existing claim. This can be done online or by visiting the nearest NH Employment Security office to file your claim on a computer in one of our Resource Centers.
