It is an established tenet that you have the right to represent yourself in a court of law, however, many people do not understand that choosing to represent yourself means that the Court will expect you to follow the same rules and procedures that an attorney must follow.

Pro: You Can Save Money. Many attorneys will have flexible payment options as part of their fee agreements, but nothing will be free -- unless you can get a public defender. Representing yourself is the least expensive option, though you will stay have to pay certain court costs and filing fees.

A Motion for Order to Show Cause asks the court for specific relief. The relief being requested can relate to many areas of family law. When a party files a Motion for Order to Show Cause, the court sets a hearing date for the parties to argue the matter before a family law judge.

While you are not legally required to have an attorney to represent you in a Florida divorce, you would be hard pressed to even find a trained attorney who would represent themselves in divorce proceedings.

Petition for dissolution of marriage. There are separate forms for the simplified procedure (Form 12.901(a), above), and for cases with dependent or minor children (Form 12.901(b)(1)), with property but no children (Form 12.901(b)(2)), and with no property or children (Form 12.901(b)(3)).

You can represent yourself if you so choose. This is called pro se representation. But just because you're allowed to represent yourself doesn't mean you should. For example, if you're going through a contentious divorce or battling child custody, these are not legal issues you want to tackle alone.
