Registering Your Aircraft To register an aircraft send the following to the Aircraft Registration Branch: an Aircraft Registration Application, AC Form 8050-1. evidence of ownership (such as one or more bills of sale) the $5.00 registration fee made payable to the Federal Aviation Administration.

EVIDENCE OF OWNERSHIP: The applicant for registration of an aircraft must submit evidence of ownership that meets the requirements prescribed in 14 CFR Part 47. AC Form 8050-2, Aircraft Bill of Sale, or its equivalent, must be used as evidence of ownership.

Bill of Sale. The seller completes the "Bill of Sale," which is FAA Form 8050-2, available for download on FAA's web site, or from AOPA (800/872-2672), most FAA FSDO offices, or a dealer at your nearest airport). The Bill of Sale must be filled out in duplicate (two originals).

If this form is used, please mail the original or copy which has been signed in ink to FAA Aircraft Registration Branch, P.O. Box 25504, Oklahoma City, OK 73125-0504. AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURER & MODEL AIRCRAFT SERIAL No. (IF INDIVIDUAL(S), GIVE LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, AND MIDDLE INITIAL.)

The aircraft is registered under the laws of a foreign country. Surrendered to the FAA (revocation, cancellation) The aircraft is totally destroyed or scrapped. The holder of the certificate loses their U.S. Citizenship.

It is not a requirement of the FAA to have the bill of sale notarized. However, it may be required by the state in which the aircraft is being sold. Additionally, having the bill of sale notarized adds legitimacy to the contract.
