All USCIS applications and petitions require an original ?wet ink? signature. That means that a photocopy of a signed form or a typewritten name in place of a signature is not acceptable. Use black ink and sign with the name and style you would use for any other legal document.

A signature is valid even if the original signature on the document is photocopied, scanned, faxed, or similarly reproduced. Regardless of how it is transmitted to USCIS, the copy must be of an original document containing an original handwritten signature, unless otherwise specified.

Scanning guidelines: The scanned images must be taken from a photo-quality paper. If you're scanning a paper photograph, its dimension should be no less than 2 x 2 inches or 51 x 51 mm square. The scanned photo should be printed at around 300 pixels per inch.

If you hand write your answers, use black ink. Make sure that everything you write on the form is clear so the information you provided can be clearly read when we process your form.

For benefit requests filed electronically as permitted by form instructions, USCIS accepts signatures in an electronic format. Benefit requestors must follow the instructions provided to properly sign electronically.

If you are filing your form with a USCIS service center, we recommend that you do not: Hole punch, staple, paper clip, binder clip, or otherwise attach documents to one another. Include photos or documents smaller than 4x6 inches for evidentiary purposes. Provide photocopies of these items instead.
