Revision history allows you to see what was revised, who made the revision, compare two revisions, and revert to another revision if necessary. You can see Revision History for all content pages made from new page templates and within template directory such as header and footer templates.

While a version is simply an iteration (something that is different than before), a revision is, in a sense, a controlled version that implies a more impactful change and often requires approval to reach the next step. The creation of a document over time may go through various stages.

The purpose of the table is to record version number, version date, name of the person making the change and a short revision description, see sample in Figure 1.

Revision Types The History panel notes all inline content revisions, including comments and updated links. Updates in the panel are labeled with the type of change. Note: Users that don't have editor access to your document can still appear in the History panel if they've left a comment or published a source link.

For every change you make and commit, you should provide a log message for that change. That way you can later find out what changes you made and why, and you have a detailed log for your development process. The Revision Log Dialog retrieves all those log messages and shows them to you.

Alternatively, you can click File > Version history > See version history. A Version history panel will appear with a high-level view of every version of your document, along with the names of people who made edits in each version and when those changes were made.
