The first Ford assembly plant in Dallas was built in 1914 and located at 2700 Commerce Street in what is now known as the Adam Hats building. The company quickly outgrew the space, and in 1925 the assembly plant was relocated to a new building at 5200 E. Grand Avenue in Dallas Fair Park.
Starting in 1912, Ford Motor Company opened domestic assembly plants in major cities throughout the United States. The company built its first Dallas, Texas, plant in 1914. Operations moved to a larger facility in east Dallas in 1925.

In addition to 1 million Model Ts, products assembled at Highland Park include tractors, buses, trucks, aircraft parts, rockets, helmets, engines and interior trim parts. Ford sold the Highland Park plant in October of 1981, but continues to lease space there for storage even today.
