The Connecticut Pretrial Alcohol Education Program — Request for Reinstatement is a document used by those convicted of a second alcohol-related offense in the state of Connecticut. The program offers an alternative to jail time and is administered by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The program is meant to provide education and intervention to help participants understand the consequences of alcohol use and misuse, and to make informed decisions about alcohol and other drugs in the future. The program consists of three parts: an assessment and intake process; a minimum of 12 hours of education and intervention; and a reinstatement period. During the reinstatement period, participants must abstain from alcohol and other drug use and must also attend a follow-up appointment. Upon successful completion of the program, participants may be eligible for a reduction in their sentence or even complete dismissal of charges. There are two types of Connecticut Pretrial Alcohol Education Program — Request for Reinstatement, one for individuals who have completed the program and are requesting reinstatement, and one for individuals who have not completed the program and are requesting to start the program.
