The Florida Abuse Hotline Information System (FAH IS) Background Check provides a comprehensive search for identifying and preventing individuals with histories of abuse or neglect from working with vulnerable populations. The background check is designed to help protect those in Florida from abuse and neglect, and includes five distinct components: criminal background checks, abuse/neglect history searches, employee disqualification registry checks, driver license/ID card checks, and sex offender registry checks. The criminal background check searches for criminal convictions or pending charges in all Florida counties and any other states where the subject of the background check has lived in the past five years. The abuse/neglect history search checks for past reports of abuse or neglect involving a subject in Florida’s Department of Children and Families system. The employee disqualification registry check searches for individuals who have been disqualified from working with vulnerable populations due to previous criminal offenses or abuse/neglect history. The driver license/ID card search checks for suspended, revoked, or expired driver licenses or ID cards. Finally, the sex offender registry search checks for any individuals registered as sex offenders in Florida. There are three types of Florida Abuse Hotline Information System Background Checks: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Level 1 is the most basic of the three and includes only the criminal background check component. Level 2 contains all components of the Level 1 background check plus the abuse/neglect history search. Level 3 includes all components of Levels 1 and 2 plus the employee disqualification registry check, driver license/ID card check, and sex offender registry check.
