The Missouri Application of Surviving Spouse For Homestead Allowance is a form that allows a surviving spouse to receive an allowance from the state of Missouri to help cover funeral and burial expenses. The allowance is based on the value of the surviving spouse's home, and is paid up to a maximum of $10,000. The surviving spouse must have owned the home for at least 15 years prior to the date of death in order to qualify. There are two types of Missouri Application of Surviving Spouse For Homestead Allowance: the Standard Homestead Allowance and the Enhanced Homestead Allowance. The Standard Homestead Allowance is for surviving spouses whose home is valued at $50,000 or less, and provides an allowance of up to $7,500. The Enhanced Homestead Allowance is for surviving spouses whose home is valued at more than $50,000, and provides an allowance of up to $10,000. Both applications must be submitted to the Missouri Department of Revenue within 12 months of the date of death.
