South Carolina Obstruction of Correspondence is a state law that criminalizes the intentional obstruction of someone’s communication with another person. This includes the intentional interception or interference of any written, printed, electronic, or other form of communication. It also includes the attempted destruction of any communication. There are two main types of South Carolina Obstruction of Correspondence: 1) Obstruction of Postal Mail; and 2) Obstruction of Electronic Communication. Obstruction of Postal Mail occurs when a person intentionally delays or prevent the delivery of mail to a person, or interferes with the delivery of mail by any means. Obstruction of Electronic Communication includes the intentional interception of any electronic communication, such as email, text, or social media messages. It also includes the attempted destruction of any electronic communication.
