Texas Records of Support are court documents that are used to establish paternity and establish a child support order in the state of Texas. These documents are issued by the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. There are three types of Texas Records of Support: the Acknowledgement of Paternity Affidavit, the Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity (VAP) Form, and the Order Establishing Child Support. The Acknowledgement of Paternity Affidavit is used to legally establish paternity without going to court. It is a form that both parents must sign in the presence of two witnesses or a notary public, and is then filed with the Office of the Attorney General. The Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity (VAP) Form is an agreement between the mother and father of a child that is filed with the Office of the Attorney General and establishes paternity. The Order Establishing Child Support is an order issued by a court that legally establishes paternity and establishes an amount of child support to be paid by the non-custodial parent.
