Possession is a legal term referring to the control of an item or property by an individual or group. Possession can be divided into physical possession, constructive possession, and exclusive possession. Physical possession is when a person is in actual control of the item or property and can usually be demonstrated through direct physical contact. Constructive possession is when an individual has control over an item or property, but without direct physical contact. This type of possession is usually inferred through evidence of control such as having exclusive access to the item or exercising authority over it. Exclusive possession is when a person has the exclusive right to possess an item which they can exercise freely without the interference from another person. This type of possession can either be granted by a court of law or by a contract.
