Misuse Of A Passport. Section of Title 18 proscribes the use or attempted use of someone else's passport, or its use in violation of any applicable regulation or law. It also proscribes giving one's passport to another for the other's use.

Under Title 18, U.S.C, Section 1544, it's a federal crime for anyone to knowingly use another person's passport.

For a basic, first offense of passport fraud under 18 U.S.C. § 1542, such as lying on a passport application, you can be fined $250,000 and sentenced to up to ten years in prison. If the fraud involves trafficking in narcotics, the penalty increases to up to 20 years in prison.
