15.21 DEFINITION: "ORDINARY CARE" refers to the standard of care or diligence expected of a reasonable and prudent person. It is the degree of care, caution and vigilance that a person of ordinary prudence would use in a given situation. Ordinary care requires taking reasonable precautions to ensure safety and prevent harm or injury to oneself and others. Different types of ordinary care include: • Exercise of due care: exercising the degree of care which a reasonable person would exercise under similar circumstances. • Reasonable care: using the amount of care that a prudent person would use to do a certain act, considering all the circumstances involved. • Standard of care: the standard of care expected of a reasonable person in the same situation. • Duty of care: the responsibility of a person to act towards others reasonably, with due regard to the rights of the other person and the safety of the public.
