The CJA 23 Financial Affidavit is a form used by the United States Courts to provide information regarding the financial resources of a defendant for the purpose of determining the eligibility of the defendant for appointed counsel. The CJA 23 Financial Affidavit is completed by the defendant and is used to determine whether the defendant is financially eligible to receive appointed counsel. There are two types of CJA 23 Financial Affidavit: one for adults and one for juveniles. The adult version of the CJA 23 Financial Affidavit is used to collect information regarding income, assets, debts, and other information necessary to determine financial eligibility for appointed counsel. The juvenile version of the CJA 23 Financial Affidavit is used to collect information from the parents of the juvenile defendant, such as income, assets, debts, and other information necessary to determine financial eligibility for appointed counsel.
