Multiple Conspiracies — for use with General Conspiracy Charge, is a legal concept that can be used to prosecute individuals or groups who have conspired to commit two or more separate criminal acts. It is a form of enhanced conspiracy charge which allows prosecutors to bring multiple charges against a defendant, even if all the elements of the crime are not present in any single act. There are two main types of multiple conspiracies: Single Agreement Multiple Object Conspiracy and Multiple Agreement Multiple Object Conspiracy. Single Agreement Multiple Object Conspiracy occurs when a single agreement is made between two or more individuals to commit multiple criminal acts. For example, if a group of individuals agrees to rob a bank and also agrees to distribute drugs, they can be charged with a single agreement multiple object conspiracy. Multiple Agreement Multiple Object Conspiracy occurs when two or more separate agreements are made between two or more individuals to commit multiple criminal acts. For example, if a group of individuals agrees to rob a bank and then agrees to distribute drugs, they can be charged with a multiple agreement multiple object conspiracy. In either case, in order to be convicted of a multiple conspiracy charge, the accused must have had knowledge of the other criminal acts and must have taken part in at least one of the acts.
