18 U.S.C. Sec. 1030(E)(1) DEFINITION OF "COMPUTER" is a section of the United States Code that defines the term “computer” for the purpose of regulating computer crime. The definition includes any device that can accept, process, store, retrieve, or output data, including electronic, magnetic, optical, hydraulic, or organic means, as well as any device or group of interconnected or related devices which utilize a computer program to perform a function. The definition also includes any input, output, or storage device used in conjunction with a computer, including a telephone, modem, computer network, or other communication device. There are two types of computers that are included in this definition: general-purpose computers and special-purpose computers. General-purpose computers are those that can accept any type of data and can be used for multiple functions, while special-purpose computers are designed for a specific task or purpose.
