18 U.S.C. Sec. 1591(E)(3) Commercial Sex Act (CSA) is a federal law which criminalizes the purchase, patronage, and solicitation of commercial sex acts. It is also commonly referred to as the “Ban on Child Sex Trafficking”. Under this law, the purchase, patronage, and solicitation of any commercial sex act is illegal, regardless of whether the sex act is with an adult or a minor, and regardless of whether the exchange is for money, goods, services, or something else of value. The types of CSA covered by this law include prostitution, pornography, erotic massage, lap dancing, stripping, and other forms of sexual exploitation. The law applies to all types of commercial sex acts, including those that occur online, in person, or by phone. Furthermore, this law also applies to any form of advertising for commercial sex acts. Anyone found guilty of violating this law faces a fine and/or imprisonment.
