Instructions for Report of Application and/or Order Authorizing Interception of Communications (Federal) is a set of instructions for federal law enforcement agencies to follow when applying for and/or authorizing the interception of communications. This document outlines the procedures for obtaining a court order authorizing the interception of communications from a federal court, the contents of the application and order, the type of information that should be included in the report of the application and/or order, and the requirements for providing notice to the individuals whose communications are intercepted. The two main types of Instructions for Report of Application and/or Order Authorizing Interception of Communications (Federal) are the Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA). The Title III instructions provide guidance on obtaining a court order for the interception of oral and wire communications, while the FISA instructions provide guidance on obtaining a court order for the interception of electronic communications. Both documents outline the procedures for obtaining a court order authorizing the interception of communications, the information that should be included in the application and order, and the requirements for providing notice to the individuals whose communications are intercepted.
