The Washington Asbestos Project Notice of Intent (WA NPI) is a legal document filed by a project owner or contractor to notify the Washington Department of Labor & Industries of their intentions to undertake an asbestos project. The WA NPI is a requirement for any asbestos project involving more than 100 square feet of regulated material, including asbestos-containing material (ACM) or presumed asbestos-containing material (PACE). There are two forms of the WA NPI: Form A and Form B. Form A is used to notify the Department of Labor & Industries of the project start date and the estimated duration of the project. It also contains information on the type of project, the area of work, and the names and addresses of the contractor and project owner. Form B is used to provide additional information to the Department of Labor & Industries, such as a description of the ACM/PACE removal, a description of the containment system, and a description of the proposed clean-up and disposal methods. It is also used to notify the Department of any changes in project scope or timeline. Both forms of the WA NPI must be accompanied by a fee and must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the start of the project. The Department of Labor & Industries will review and approve the WA NPI before the project can begin.
