Organizations that use or engage in business (or “profit”) activities, or engage in “nonprofit activities,” can be taxpayers. Nonprofit organizations can also engage in both business and nonprofit activities. Organizations can't deduct business or sales, and don't qualify for the business or sales exception. And nonprofits aren't allowed to claim the expenses of their nonprofit activities on a Schedule A, income tax. They must be claimed separately. So you have two choices. Use a nonprofit organization to make non-profit revenue, or buy and sell non-profit goods. But the best option is probably to buy and sell goods and services. You can donate services and supplies to your nonprofit organization. If you don't have that money to donate, you can donate services (but not the services from your own business) instead.
