The trial court entered an order on December 13, 2003, by which the jury returned a verdict for the defendants in the sum of 15,400, which included a 10 percent additional contingent fee based on the jury's decision to award the total sum that the jury had found the defendants owed. The order provides that the court will award that 15,400 to each of the defendants in accordance with the verdict. The court's order also includes an order requiring the defendants to pay the contingent fee with interest thereon on the final judgment. The plaintiffs filed a motion for a new trial following their conviction on the civil fraud counts. The motion, which they moved to supplement, and which was made pursuant to Code § 8.01-1301(20), sought a new trial on three counts pertaining to the use of their money and property. They claimed that trial counsel, although they sought expert testimony regarding the use and value of their money and property, had not employed any outside money advisors.
