The “mode” of death refers to the form and way by which death has resulted. Examples include sudden cardiac death, cardiorespiratory failure, end stage renal failure, and all other forms of organ failure.

The body will be sent to the Mortuary @ HSA in a police hearse. The family will be notified by the police when to go to the Mortuary @ HSA (usually the next day). The police investigator will arrange for the family to view and identify the deceased's body in the presence of the coroner.

A death in Singapore will be automatically registered once a doctor certifies the death online. There is no need for the next of kin to register the death at a registration counter.

Required Documents: Application form for registration. Proof of birth of the deceased – Birth certificate/SSLC certificate. Copy of the ration card. Medical Certification of causes of Death, if required. Aadhaar card. ID card of the applicant. Residential Proof. Date and time of death.

If a Singapore citizen or permanent resident had died overseas, the next of kin should register the death and get a death certificate from the foreign authorities in the country where the person had died. The deceased's next of kin will then need to report the death to ICA Registry of Births and Deaths.

Birth and death records of Singapore are maintained by the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority. This includes births and deaths that were registered with the the Registry from 1872 and onward. These can be accessed by the public using the Online Birth and Death Extracts Application System (eXtracts).
