Affirmative marketing consists of actions to provide information and otherwise attract eligible persons to available housing without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, familial status (persons with children under 18 years of age, including pregnant women), or disability.

AFHM Plans must be reviewed at least every five years or when the local Community Development jurisdiction's Consolidated Plan is updated, or when there are significant changes in the demographics of the project or the local housing market area.

The purpose of this AFHMP is to help applicants offer equal housing opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability.

It will need to be renewed every 5 years with the new Consolidated Plan or when there are significant demographic changes to the target area that will affect who should be considered the least likely to apply.

The concept of affirmative marketing is to conduct both broad and targeted outreach to contact those least likely to apply for available housing units. Housing developers and managers are responsible for creating and implementing such plans.
