Get Texas Tax Id

It is printed in the upper left corner of the tax report we mail to each taxpayer and on most notices. It is two letters followed by six numbers (Example: RT666666). If you do not have your Webfile number, you can contact us at (800) 442-3453 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Note: An EIN Number is not the same thing as a Texas State Tax ID Number. A federal EIN is issued by the IRS. And a Texas Tax ID Number is issued by the Texas Comptroller.

Texas Taxpayer Number: This 11-digit number is issued to an individual/entity by the Comptroller of Public Accounts. If the individual/entity was previously issued a Texas taxpayer number, enter it here.

You will need to apply using form AP-201, Texas Application (PDF). Email the application to sales.applications@cpa.texas.gov or fax the application to 512-936-0010. To complete the application, you will need the following documentation: Sole owner's Social Security number.

The nine-digit base number is usually a federal employer identification number (EIN), Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). TINS randomly assigns an 11-digit number for SSNs and ITINs that begin with 7.

The National Identification Number (NIN) consists of 11 non-intelligible numbers randomly chosen and assigned to an individual at the completion of enrolment into the National Identity Database (NIDB).

The Texas Taxpayer Number is the 11-digit number assigned by the Comptroller of Public Accounts. The Texas taxpayer number is not the same as the Federal Employer Identification Number or the Texas Secretary of State (SOS) File Number.
