The booking class of a flight is based on the Reservation Booking Designator (RBD). The RBD is the code used in reservation transactions to identify the booking class. The booking class provides airlines with a parameter for profit-oriented controlling and best usage of capacities at the booking level.

Some frequent flyer programs send out newsletters and statements that include your membership number. Search your inbox (or junk mail) for the name of the frequent flyer program to see if you can find it. Ask a travel agent you've previously used.

Every major U.S. airline has a loyalty program, and if you like, you can join them all. But rather than earning small quantities of miles spread over multiple rewards programs where they may never amount to an award flight, it makes sense to focus your spending and flying to one or two.

It all depends on the frequent flyer program of your choice, its rules and flights, that you take, but the rule of thumb is, that with just 3-4 flights a year you can think about yourself as a frequent flyer, who's entitled to certain perks.

How does a traveler get a frequent flyer number? Travelers can get their FFN by signing up with the airline, and the process differs from one airline to the next. The process is often straightforward, and airlines will have different number formats too.
