While 14 CFR 61.57(d) does not stipulate a minimum time requirement for the IPC, a good rule of thumb is to plan at least 90 minutes of ground time and at least two hours of flight time for a solid evaluation of the pilot's instrument flying knowledge and skills.

Our aircraft checkouts and IPCs can count as a flight review, but make sure you check with your instructor before the flight. For those who are not current pilots, or those who aren't familiar with general aviation and light aircraft, you will very likely need a bit more than the FAA minimum to obtain a flight review.

Flight reviews in the United States The flight review consists of at least 1 hour of ground instruction and 1 hour in-flight with a qualified flight instructor, although completion of any Phase of the FAA WINGS program also satisfies the requirement for a flight review.

The review should be a proficiency evaluation while providing a learning experience, rather than the pressure of a checkride atmosphere. The Instrument Proficiency Check serves the same purpose for instrument pilots as the flight review for VFR pilots.

The flight review also differs from the IPC in that it has a time requirements: at least one hour of flight, and at least one hour of ground reviewing the operating procedures of Part 91. The IPC has a list of tasks which must be accomplished, but no minimum time requirement.
