Since 1942, AER has provided $2 billion to nearly 4 million Soldiers, including $1 billion since 9/11. Through zero-interest loans, grants, and educational scholarships, AER ensures no Soldier faces financial hardship on their own.

Soldiers can request up to $2,000.00 in assistance by submitting AER Form to their immediate Commander/1SG 101 (checking Quick Assist Program in box 16, page 3). Application includes AER Form 57 Budget Sheet to assist with evaluating ability to repay debt in a 12-15 month period.

You are eligible to receive emergency financial assistance from the Military Aid Societies if you are: An active duty service member. A member of an activated National Guard or Reserve unit. An immediate family member of a service member in the above two categories.

Allows active duty or retired Soldiers to provide one-time authority for a spouse or other eligible dependent to obtain financial assistance in the name of the Soldier when they are unavailable. Upon request, the AER Form 55 will can be initiated by the local AER officer.

What is the interest rate on an AER loan? Zero percent. AER does not charge interest on loans.

Active duty or retired Soldiers may request assistance from any military aid society office located within 50 miles of their current locations. If an office is not found within 50 miles, Soldiers can receive AER assistance through the American Red Cross at 1-877-272-7337.

Army Emergency Relief has been around 80 years with the motto of “Soldiers Helping Soldiers.” The program is funded through Soldiers' donations and is also opened to help members from other services when they are not near their port or base.
