To purchase new Virginia license plates, complete form VSA-14. You may choose to register your vehicle for one or two years. Two-year registration costs twice the annual fee and provides a convenient way for you to register with DMV.

You can also visit any DMV customer service center or mobile office to get a replacement car tag or license plate sticker (decal). Fill out a Vehicle Registration form (Form VSA-14), including personal, vehicle and insurance information. Once you pay the fee, you will receive your replacement registration.

Complete the registration renewal form....Enclose your payment and return the registration in the enclosed envelope to: Virginia Deptartment of Motor Vehicles. Attn: Renewal Center. P.O. Box 27412. Richmond, VA 23269-0001.

Proof of your Virginia address. Payment for the VA vehicle titling fees (vehicle title transfer fee: $15. Tax: 4.15% of the sale price or $75 – whichever is higher)

A completed Application for Registration (Form VSA 14) or a completed Application for Certificate of Title and Registration (Form VSA 17A) if your vehicle was not previously titled in Virginia. Proof of identity and address. The vehicle's inspection certificate (see “Safety & Emissions Inspections” below).

Visit the DMV's online services portal and: Sign into your My DMV account, if you already have one. If you don't have an account, creating one gives you the option to print your registration immediately.

If plate(s) are lost, mutilated, destroyed or illegible, a $10.00 reissue fee is charged. For permanent and trailer plates, a $5.00 replacement fee is charged.
