There are three classes of Department of Buildings' ECB Violations: Class 1 (Immediately Hazardous), Class 2 (Major), and Class 3 (Lesser)." A DOB Violation is a notice that a property is not compliant with some provisions of the law.

To remove a DOB violation from a property record, the condition must be corrected and proof of that correction must be provided to the issuing unit. CLASS "A" NON-HAZARDOUS No peephole in the entrance door of the dwelling unit; Keeping of pigeons, chickens, etc. unlawfully; Improper seat for a water closet; No street number on the front of the dwelling.

Major violations shall be denominated as Class 2 violations. (3) LESSER VIOLATION. Lesser violations are those where the violating condition has a lesser effect than an immediately hazardous (Class 1) or major violation (Class 2) on life, health, safety, property, or the public interest.

Class 1 violations are the hazardous violations that require immediate correction to avoid further fines or problems. Hazardous violations affect the building, property, people, and tenants. Most class 1 violations are associated with WORK WITHOUT PERMIT violations, Stop Work Orders, and Vacate Orders.
