(a) Each inmate shall be placed in one of the five custody grades: community, minimum, medium, close, or maximum. (b) Information from all available sources shall be used to complete an automated custody classification questionnaire. The questionnaire shall reflect the degree of supervision appropriate for the inmate.

Custody level classifications are community, minimum, medium, close, and maximum. 6 This range is limited to 108 major institutions, annexes, re-entry centers, work camps, road prisons, forestry camps, and one basic training program.

Inmate Custody Levels Inmates in close custody present the highest risk while inmates in minimum III generally present the least risk. Within this mix of custodial assignments, inmates also may be subject to various control statuses.

Each inmate will be allowed up to two (2) visitors only per visitation day (two adults or one adult and one child). A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. All children must have adult supervision before, during, and after a visit. Presently, an inmate can only visit with 2 people at a time.

Complete the Visitation Application Form (DC6-111A) for approval (either Spanish or English page). Completed applications may be submitted via one of the following: Mail to the Classification Department at the inmate's current location (see the Statewide Facility Directory for address information).

Can I be on the approved visiting list of more than one inmate? A visitor will not be permitted to be on more than one inmate's approved visiting record unless they are immediate family members. If you are already on the approved list of a non-family member, you may be added to the list of a family member.

Close custody inmates must be maintained in a facility with a secure perimeter or with direct supervision outside. Maximum custody refers to inmates who are under a sentence of death.
