Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)

You, the parent, can contact your Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to request an evaluation to determine if your child is eligible for special education services. The CPSE is responsible for coordinating the special education process for children ages 3 to 5.

In order to be eligible for CPSE services your child must Exhibit a significant delay or disorder which adversely affects the student's ability to learn. Such delay or disorder shall be documented by the results of the individual evaluation.

A letter identifying your child and describing why you are referring them must be sent to the CPSE that works with families in your district. Here is a sample letter. To find your district and information on your CPSE, call 311 or visit the NYC Department of Education (NYCDOE) website.
