The maximum age to join the Army as an enlisted Soldier is 35, while Officers must accept their commission before age 31. However, the Army can lift some restrictions based on the need for certain roles to be filled. It's possible to receive an age waiver if you retire with 20 years of military service by age 55.

Some units are able to board their applicants as soon as they get them. Others, based on mission requirements, can take a full 30 days or more to board. Once the board process is complete, State leadership will determine the priority of hiring and when the selected Soldier will be hired into the AGR Program.

You must be at least 18 to 54 years old (you must not have reached your 55th birthday). You must be in ranks SPC through MSG/1SG. You must have accrued less than 15 years of active federal service. You must be eligible for reenlistment or extension.

Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Soldiers serve full-time and enjoy the same benefits as Active Duty Soldiers. With an Active Guard Reserve job, you receive full pay, medical care for you and your family, and the opportunity for retirement after 20 years of active service.

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE: To provide information for use in determining eligibility/qualifications for Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) positions. A copy will be provided to the applicant.
